What water is to fish, books are to me. My kit comes armed with a few books, standard. They may not all be set outdoors, but many of them were read outdoors. As we walk down the trail, take a walk through the pages with me.

At my suggestion, the first overnight camping trip Alex and I took was Dripping Springs State Park. Dozens of overnighters and week-long expeditions later, being away from the outdoors is now painful. I’ve collected a considerable arsenal of my own now, but there have been some hiccups along the way. Alex is far more bougie in his choices, my selections favor entry-level gear for the somewhat newer camper.

Freeze dried mixes and instant oats have their place at the campsite, but there’s room for finer foods. Marshmallows are the bare minimum of what you should cook on a campfire. Some recipes have been worth the extra effort and ingredients, others… have not. Stick around and learn from my experience.

Good talk, see you out there!
